Hospital Rotations

Serving our Medically and Emotionally Complex Patients

Rotations

Addiction, Emergency Medicine, Internal Medicine

Rotation Information

Rotations begin after the initial 10-week focused clinic experience. During the 10-weeks, you will be given more information about upcoming rotations so that you can be prepared before you begin the given rotation.

All rotations occur at St. Vincent's Charity Medical Center. The LMS calendar has information about who is on rotation and the expected hours of service and availability. Rotations are mandatory and evaluations will occur. You will also have an opportunity to evaluate the rotation experience so that we can improve the experience for future resident classes.

Rotation Expectations

Rotations enable you to gain valuable experience in how healthcare works and how Dentistry fits into healthcare. They demonstrate the importance of healthcare providers working together to solve patients' problems in a team environment.

You will learn how systemic diseases affect the oral cavity. Additionally, you will experience many different patient populations and how addiction impoverishes health and lives. You will get to experience emergency room medicine and dentistry. This year, we will explore wound care and healing, which will assist you in understanding how tissue healing occurs.

Our rotations are valuable and the opportunities to add new rotations are being explored.

How to Prepare for Clinical Rotations

We will provide information about the details of the rotations as the time to begin the sequence of rotations draws close. However, there are some important considerations listed below for you to mentally begin to prepare for these experiences.

  • No more than 2 residents will be on rotation at any given time.
  • Residents are unaccompanied on these rotations.
  • Rotations last for 3-weeks each.
  • Addiction/Psych and the Emergency Room rotation occur simultaneously for the given resident. Addiction/Psych occurs in the morning and the Emergency Room experience occurs in the afternoon each day.
  • Be properly attired with a clean and neat appearance.
  • Show up on time each day.
  • Participate in opportunities. These are not observations. Residents should be completing tasks and assisting the Attending responsible for the rotation.
  • Show courtesy to other health care professionals.
  • Do not leave without being released by the Attending responsible for the rotation.
  • Do work in a responsible, accurate, and efficient manner.
  • Obey hospital protocol for OSHA, HIPAA, and other regulations.
  • In case of illness or emergencies, contact Dr. Morgan and the appropriate liaison at St. Vincent's.
