We acknowledge that every Resident is an individual with unique desires, goals, and dreams. We also know that preparing proficient clinicians is only one aspect of training. We want our Residents to enjoy successful careers and successful lives.
Toward that end, we have goals for helping you build on your current strengths and helping you strengthen your weaknesses. We want to work with you to identify your communication style and maximize good communication skills so that you can enjoy good relationships in both your working and personal lives. We also want to assist you in honing your decision-making skills so that you operate in your life and business as an outstanding example to those you serve. Additionally, as a practitioner, regardless of the practice situation, you will need exquisite leadership skills and an others-focused leadership style.
In short, we want you to grow as a person and as a dentist. We are here to help you through ongoing emphasis on these critical aspects of being the best you can be.
Our mission for the Graduate Residents include the following goals:
At CDI, we know that excellence does not just happen. Learning needs a planned approach that is constantly evolving as needs and interests change. Dentistry is not static and our development team keeps learning opportunities in line with current changes in the field of Dentistry.
We take our students' perceptions of our residency opportunity very seriously. That is why we ask them to be a part of our planning through exit surveys and through committee opportunities in the area of learning. We also poll our in-coming students to assess their current knowledge and interests. This helps us customize our residency year by year.
Our measurements are not solely derived from student perceptions of the program. We align our learning opportunities with the Accreditation Standards for Advanced Education Programs in General Dentistry. These guidelines help residency programs develop learning opportunities in dental procedures, patient care, ethics, professionalism, and community service.
Our residents are provided with many learning-science-based opportunities. We establish success measures through activities, low-stakes testing, and clinical evaluations using rubrics so that you know what is expected and can measure your own success. We try to enable our students to improve their strengths and correct their weaknesses in an individualized manner.
